FAQ: USED BIKE SALES

Q: What used bikes will PEDAL purchase?

A: PEDAL only purchases bike-shop-quality bikes (e.g., Trek, Specialized, Giant, Cannondale, etc.) in functional condition with a visible, valid serial number. PEDAL is under no obligation to purchase any bike, period.

Q: What about e-bikes?

A: We’re good with e-bikes. As above they have to be bikes that you’d buy in a shop, and the systems must be those with which PEDAL has certification. That’s Bosch, Yamaha, Shimano, Fazua, Aventon, RAD and TQ. Unsure? Call and ask.  E-Bikes must have all relevant equipment like batteries, keys and charger.

Q: What do I need to know about the bike I wish to sell?

A: You should know your bike’s make, model, year and serial number. This will make the transaction much smoother and more efficient. You'll also need a valid government ID (which we'll copy).

Q: Do you buy stolen bikes?

A: Gross! No. If your bike looks dodgy from that perspective (repaint, obscured serial number, questionable provenance, etc.), we’ll pass.

Q: How will I be paid for my bike?

A: We’ll mail you a check or we can do PayPal, Venmo or store credit.

Q: How much is my bike worth?

A: When possible, we use a service to help determine the value of your bike. The two we use most are bicyclebluebook.com and upway.com You’re welcome to check ‘em out. In the cases in which your bike doesn’t appear in those databases, we’ll use our experience and judgement to evaluate your bike.

Q: Could I sell my bike for more?

A: Probably. We’ll offer you a fair wholesale price. We’ll make it easy, and you don’t have to deal with internet strangers.

Q: I want to sell my bike and it's awesome, but it probably needs some work. Is that OK?
A: Maybe. The work your bike needs will affect the amount that we can offer you. A bike that’s dirty or appears neglected/abused/unloved/worn out will bring a lower price.

Q: What if my bike is like 20+ years old?
A: It still has value. A lot of value? Maybe so, maybe not. You’re welcome to reference the above value guides to make the call. Or, swing it by one of our stores for a quick assessment.
